Helpful Terms for Playing Online Slots

When playing slots games, whether land based or online slots, there are some terms that are helpful to know. While you don’t have to know these terms in order to play, it’s a good idea to know what everyone else is talking about. Following you’ll find some often used terms.

• Bonus Feature – There’s a special feature added to some newer slots that when activated automatically gives you free spins or a bonus round that allows you to win extra coins.
• Coins Size – This describes the amount of each bet. Most online slots allow more than one coin to be played. Typical coin sizes go from 1 cent to 5 dollars.
• Hit Frequency – This means how often winning spins happen. Obviously, larger hit frequencies are better than lower ones. However, you need to also consider the pay cycle.
• Multiline – Online slots as well as land based ones that have more than two pay lines to make winning combinations.
• Free Spins – Spins awarded for free occur when a specific combination, typically three or more, scatter symbols appear.
• Pay Line – Typically, this means the line in the center of the slot window. It can also be three – five lines. You can only win from symbols on a pay line.
• Reels – These are where the symbols of a machine are shown. A machine usually has three reels but can also be two, four, or more. The more reels, the harder it is to hit a jackpot.
• Scatter – A combination of two or more symbols that win regardless of where they appear.
• Symbols – The icons appearing on the reels.
• Pay Cycle – It’s believed that slots, either online slots or land based ones, go through cycles. This means once a certain amount of coins are played, the machine must pay out to keep up with the payout percentage programmed into that machine’s software.
• Wild Symbol – A symbol appearing on the reel that is substituted for other symbols to make a winning combination.

By studying this list, you can be as slots savvy as the next player.

See you in the software

Online Casino I’ve not forgotten you!

I’ve been very lax over the past few months with my blogging, but it’s not because I’ve forgotten about Online Casino! On the contrary, I’ve just been so busy with the launch of our new Online Poker site (Cool Hand Online Poker) and preparing the final stages to some very exciting changes here at JackpotCity.com that I’ve just not had the time to blog. That though is now a thing of the past (for now) and I’m going to throw myself back into this casino blog with gusto!

I thank you loyal readers for still sticking around even though there has been little or no action here. I promise, there is still plenty more to come

Cheers

Justin

What’s news at JackpotCity.com?

I’ve just been going through a list of promotions in the casino and I must say things are looking very good!

First up we have a Jackpot Cruise on offer and it’s one that I wish I could take part in. 50 players and their partners can win the chance to spend 7 days on an amazing Mediterranean Cruise. The trip takes in the sites of Barcelona, Nice, Florence, Rome, Naples and Palermo. Man I can just see the fun being had in all those beautiful cities and in the casino, bars and lounges of that cruise ship. It makes me a little jealous!

Next up is the Oktoberfest promotion and I can tell you that all that hearty fare and barrels of beer is a laugh a minute. I’ve been to Munich a few times to celebrate it and I can highly recommend it. This promotion is only running until the end of August, so if you want to win you better start to spin.

Lastly we have our €500 FREE sign up bonus. This will allow all new casino players to play with €500 without making a single deposit. This in my book is a great deal and I can tell you it’s a great way to start your JackpotCity.com online casino experience.

That’s all from me for today. Hope you have a great time entering our promotions.

Justin

PS: Remember that terms and conditions apply to all of the above.

Breaking Casino News!

Holy cow it’s official! I don’t think the good people of Nevada are used to this sort of thing, but with the US economy faltering it seems that casinos across the State are feeling the effects. For the second time since last year the June figures report that casino revenue is down 1.9%. Fortunately this still translates to a win of $12.5 billion so it’s not complete doom and gloom. (For more on this read my casino blog post: Casino Revenue Down in Nevada)

I know I was a little flippant with my previous posts (see link above and here) but I’ve changed my mind after reading more and more reports about the downturn. This is not such a great thing. Yes I guess the fact that less people are driving to Nevada (causing less pollution and greenhouse gasses) is a good thing, but I’m a little worried about people losing their jobs in a tight economy.

Do any of you have thoughts on this subject? How do you think casinos (and not just those in Nevada) can get more people back at the tables? Do you think this is a bonus for online casinos because it makes online casinos a more viable casino destination? Leave your comments below…

Cheers for now

JackpotCity.com online casino is still better than Vegas!

A huge statement yes, but after this last trip to Vegas (hence the lack of posts recently) I’m convinced that online casino is the way to go! It’s not that I had a bad trip, hell I’ll always love Vegas, but I missed the pure selection of games (over 350 and counting) that JackpotCity.com has to offer. Games like American and European Roulette, Baccarat, Slots and even Video Poker.

Yes, yes, you get many of these games in Vegas, but the major difference is you don’t have to wait for a game online. You want to play it, you play it. Not like in Vegas where you sometimes (read most times) have to wait for that specific table or machine.

Ok changing the subject a bit, but one thing I must say I did enjoy was looking for things in Vegas that I have recently blogged about. Things like the $10,000 touch screen tables at Harrah’s and the new Trump Hotel. I even kept an eye out on how full the casinos are to see if they look like casino revenue is down, see here. It might be, but the casinos still look damn busy to me.

Well, it’s good to be back I must say, and I promise I’ll be posting every day again until my next trip over the pond!

Cheers for now and see you in the software!

Casino mogul hosts war vets in Vegas.

According to the Associated Press (AP) and WAVY TV 10 in the US Sheldon Adelson, the casino mogul who runs the Las Vegas Sands Corporation, has taken a few dozen wounded soldiers on an all expenses paid trip to Vegas. One of the wounded soldiers even decided to make it his wedding weekend.

Now this is giving back! It shows the responsible, compassionate side of casino gambling that many people don’t ever see.
You Mr Adelson committed a compassionate and unselfish act by doing this and I for one salute you.

Regards

Love them or hate them, online casinos are here to stay!

The split between casino lovers and casino haters is most probably an even one, but when it comes to online casinos… Maybe not so much! There is still a slight stigma attached to playing at an online casino that I have never understood. As long as you ALWAYS play at a licensed casino such as JackpotCity.com you should NEVER have a problem.

Licensed casinos (especially those licensed in Gibraltar) have very strict guidelines that they must follow to maintain their licensed casino status. These guidelines are strictly enforced and with the aid of independent watchdog organisations such as eCOGRA and trustworthy casino software providers such as Microgaming, safe and secure online gaming is ALWAYS ensured.

Hope you all have a great weekend and I’ll be seeing you in the software!

Online slots for beginners

Any of you who are regular readers of my casino blogs will know that I’m a big, big fan of all things casino. I suppose this is one of the reasons why so many of my friends ask me for advice on how to play online or where to play online. I’ve therefore decided to answer all of you in one go, so here goes:

The where to play online is easy and I’m sure you can guess what I’m going to say - JackpotCity.com online casino!

The how to play online, although it can seem daunting, is also very simple. Firstly you need to download your free casino software! You can play in the no download casino, but the range of games is allot more limited than the full download version. If you have never played in a casino then I suggest you start off with something easy like a 3 reel slots game such as 1 Arm Bandit, Break da Bank or Bulls Eye. They offer low betting options with descent returns and you can play them at your own pace.

For the more seasoned player you can play any game you like, but bare one tip in mind – always read the rules of the game you decide to play! This will give you a better view of how the game works and maybe even give you a clue or 2 on what betting strategy to use.

That’s about the simplest advice I can give you. If you’re still not sure what to do then go to our “how to get started” page and follow the step by step guide on how to download your casino software and open an account. Trust me, it really is an easy process.

Cheers for now

$1 casino chip sells for nearly $29,000 on eBay!

Now this is what I call a return on investment! According to an article in Kansascity.com American Sandy Marbs bagged $28,9880.88 on internet auction site eBay for a rare 1960’s $1 casino chip from the now defunct Showboat Casino. She kept it in her jewellery box for the past 48 years because the image of a boat on the chip reminded her of Missouri.

Apparently this casino chip is one of only three in existence and is thought to be the highest price ever paid for a $1 chip.

Well Sandy, may I be one of the first to congratulate you on your windfall. It just goes to show that sometimes it’s good to keep your casino memories close to you. Anyway all this talk of windfalls and casinos has put me in the mood for a few spins on one of our progressive slots. The jackpot total is currently sitting at over €5,000,000 and I have a feeling it’s going to be paying out soon.

Cheers for know and I’ll be seeing you at the slots (the progressive slots that is).

Justin

PS: Thanks for all the positive feedback I’ve received regarding my humble little casino blog. I’m pleased that all of you out in casino land are enjoying it.
