NOT building a casino in Las Vegas, genius or folly?

Ok, ok I know I’ve done a few posts on Trump casinos (or in this case lack thereof), but the man is a legend! But I digress…

Earlier on I was reading the online version of the Mercury News (I basically read newspapers from all over the world all day) and came across an article about the new Trump hotel in Las Vegas. Nothing strange there you might think, but please note that I said hotel, not casino, not hotel and casino, but hotel. The reason… Simple really, because the hotel does not HAVE a casino!

I know, I know, it sounds crazy to spend $1 billion on an amazing piece of Vegas real-estate surrounded by the Wynn and the Palazzo casinos and not even build your own casino, but Mr Trump has done it and done it in style!

But is it a clever move? Unfortunately only time will tell, but if Mr Trump has read the market correctly (and let’s face it he normally does) then this little bit of Manhattan glitz might just be the sanctuary some people need from the hustle and bustle that is Vegas. Hell, even if it doesn’t work, I for one must give “the man” kudos for trying something different in Vegas. It’s about time somebody shook things up (to quote another Vegas legend).

Cheers for now

Trump Marina casino finds a buyer.

It seems that property mogul, casino entrepreneur and reality TV star Donald Trump has found a buyer for the ailing Trump Marina casino.

The Associated Press reports that Coastal Marina LLC, an affiliate of Coastal Development LLC, will be buying the property and it will be rebranded under the Jimmy Buffet brand “Margaritaville”. This means that Coastal Marina will now be getting a second casino property as chairman, Richard T. Fields, is the co-developer of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Florida.

Well, well, well! I think this bodes well for the marina property that in recent years has taken a hammering from market leaders the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spar and Harrah’s Atlantic City casino. I also think the “Margaritaville” branding (taken from a Jimmy Buffet song) will bring a breath of fresh air to the Atlantic City casino area.

Cheers for now!

PS: Apologies about the lack of posts over the last few days, but I’ve been ill.

Dutch Government drags heels on online casino decision.

Apologies my Dutch brothers! It seems like you’ll have to wait a little longer to enjoy the fruits of playing at JackpotCity.com online casino. The reason! The Netherlands Council of State is not likely to give a verdict anytime soon on the case between Betfair and the Dutch Government.

The case has been brought against the Dutch Governments Justice Ministry based on the fact that they refused to issue Betfair with a gambling licence to protect their (the Governments) own gambling monopolies.

I hope this is resolved soon, because the rest of the world is seeing the advantage of playing online so why can’t the Dutch Government? I honestly thought that such an enlightened nation would have leaders that have more sense.

Oh well, guess its back to the casino tables for me. Cheers for now.

This online casino must be kidding!

I was busy going through another casino blog today and came across this little gem of an article. It says that a well known online casino wants to sue a 6 month old baby for debt incurred while playing the Midlife Crisis online slots game. Apparently the little tyke ran up a $16,587 bill…

The parents were rightly “appalled and disgusted” that the online casino in question sent a formal complaint and must have been livered when told they must pay up or legal action will be pursued “to the fullest extent of the law”. To add insult to injury they (the parents) don’t even gamble online!!!

I must admit… Words escape me on this one… How on earth could a supposedly well known casino get it so wrong? Here at JackpotCity.com we have strict processes and procedures when it comes to opening a new casino account. How this took place needs to be investigated and steps need to be taken to prevent it happening again. The casino in question should be looking at its own internal processes and not trying to prosecute a 6 month year old baby. To prosecute the family without an investigation into this would be in a word, childish!

Coolhand Poker is on its way!

Ok, its official! Poker, my second favourite pastime after casino, is getting an online facelift and is being launched as Coolhand Poker very, very soon. I don’t have a set launch date yet, but I’ve seen some of the preliminary ideas, artwork and software suggestions and in a word I can only say – FANTASTIC!

I’m not allowed to give too much away, but stick to this blog and you’ll be the first to know whenever something new happens. (Ok, ok, I’ll give one hint… A poker school and unique poker rooms for both novice and experienced players are included)

Damn, but I can’t wait for this Coolhand poker site!

Fancy a night at the Wacko Jacko Casino?

Well you might just get your chance! The Los Angeles Times reports that Colony Capital has repurchased Michael Jacksons debt and cancelled the proposed auction of Jackson’s Neverland Ranch.

Colony Capital, if I’m not mistaken, has pockets flushed with casino cash thanks to revenue from its hospitality and casino portfolio. So in my opinion I don’t think it takes a financial whiz kid to see the route Neverland will most probably take. Also, according to Wikipedia the Neverland Ranch already has a zoo and numerous fairground attractions built on 2,800 acres of land. The house is also more than large enough to function as a casino resort and never underestimate the amount of Michael Jackson fans and pop culture vultures that would love to stay in the “Macaulay Culkin Suit” or have supper at the “Moonwalk Dinner”.

Argh! I can think of nothing worse! Not sure what your opinion is, but this blogger thinks it might be in slightly bad taste? I love a themed casino as much as the next guy (I do take holidays in Vegas after all), but do I want the MJ experience just yet? Not so sure about that…

Do you think differently? Then drop me a line in the comments section below.

Cheers

Nintendo Wii launches downloadable VIP Casino Blackjack game!

Today Nintendo launched its latest innovation for the Wii console, the downloadable games service WiiWare. Unfortunately we Europeans have to wait until the 20th of May for our opportunity to have a go, but I think it’ll be well worth the wait. Although the final European games release has not yet been finalised, the American release will start with six titles including VIP Casino: Blackjack.

Oh happy days! I think this could be a match made in heaven. Now I just wish I could also play my favourite JackpotCity.com casino games on the Wii. Imagine the new Tomb Raider: Secret of the Sword Video Slot… Now that would be something worth seeing!

In the meantime, I’ll see you in the software!

Donald Trump still wants to sell his casinos.

According to an article in USA Today the 3 casinos owned by Trump Entertainment Resorts are still up for sale. Chief Executive Officer Mark Juliano is also quoted as saying that the casino and gambling company are “looking at strategic alternatives” and would “sell if a good deal materialises”. This is after two potential deals to buy all or part of the company fell through last year.

Now why would you do that now Mr Trump? Smoking ban? Economic downturn? Or is it true what I’ve been hearing in certain circles that online casinos are starting to take major revenue away from land based casinos due to rising fuel prices and travelling costs? Come on Mr Trump, stay with us for the long haul! Your casinos are some of the best in the world and things will change. Hell, even if they don’t you’re more than welcome to come and join us here at JackpotCity.com online casino. We’d be more than glad to have you.

Hope you all have a great weekend people, I’ll be seeing you in the software…

R.I.P. Tropicana Casino

It is with great sadness that I read this article about the owners of the Tropicana casino filing for bankruptcy. As a lover of all things casino I have on more than one occasion spent a wonderful evening at the Blackjack tables and slot machines of this Las Vegas institution.

Hopefully the rumour about MGM Mirage, the casino conglomerate who owns MGM Grand, New York-New York and Excalibur, being interested in acquiring it are true. I for one would be very unhappy to see another great casino experience disappear.

Guess I’ll just have to console myself with a few rounds of online Blackjack here in my software.

Cheers for now and see you at the tables

Defunct Playboy casino chips turn up on eBay!

20 years ago the Playboy casino in Atlantic City closed its doors, but it seems although it is long gone it is defiantly not forgotten. Chips from the failed casino have been showing up on eBay in ever increasing numbers thanks to a find on a construction site in Hernando, Mississippi.

Apparently the coins were sent to Green Duck Manufacturing to be destroyed, but what happened to them after they arrived in Mississippi is a mystery.  Green Duck eventually closed and a community centre went up in its place.

State Police with the Division of Gaming Enforcement confirmed they know about the find, but “have not initiated an investigation at this point”.

Until the mystery is solved, the sales will continue. And so will the mourning for casino chip collectors who have been devastated by the flooding of the market by what was once a very rare casino chip.
